These Leggings are Ohm-azing

If you were to peer into my closet, it would look fairly monochromatic. Navy. Black. White. Gray.  Maybe some oxblood. You know the drill — it’s the usual color palette for a New Yorker.

But every once in a while, it’s refreshing to throw neutrals to the wind and wear an outfit that’s a little left of funky.

When I wore this in Miami last week, I joked that if the lobby of a yoga studio could barf up an outfit, this would be it.

The bohemian leggings were a steal during a Labor Day sale at the American Eagle outlet. (This exact print is not available, but here is another printed pair on sale. And you can browse all of American Eagle’s leggings here.)

Word to the wise — busy prints like this can be very beautiful, but they are not necessarily slimming. Svelte leggings end to be in darker shades, while these patterns scream for scrutiny around areas many feel sensitive about.

You’ll also get a LOT of comments from strangers when you wear something like this. (A lot of: “Those pants are crazy!”)

The biggest plus side? With a kaleidoscopic print like this, you can wear almost any color top. I chose a loose muscle tee covered in gilded lotus blossoms, which I got in the Exhale retail area of the lobby. (Exhale is one of my favorite places to get sportswear, which I discuss here.)

I don’t get to wear outfits like this often, especially now that it is getting chilly in NYC. But this is comfortable and colorful, I’ll grab any future chances to dress like I am fresh from an ashram retreat.
