A few weeks ago, I shared my delight with the MILLY for DesigNation collection available at Kohl’s. (This was by far the best design collaboration I’ve seen this year — and many of the items are still available here.)
Here is another piece from the collection — a wacky and colorful pencil skirt made from a neoprene-esque material.
This skirt is covered in striped beach umbrellas — the ultimate symbol of summer decadence. The pattern is so dizzying, it looks like a photorealistic Rorschirt test or a Magic Eye book. This type of skirt can be intimidating to pair with anything other than a black T-shirt. (A worthy and perfectly safe option.)
But the stripes in the skirt perfectly echo the nautical stripes in this fisherman’s shirt, which is the real McCoy straight from Paris. Coincidence? Of course not.
As you can see, the Milly x Kohl’s folks are really pushing the stripes-with-everything concept for spring. So I am hardly breaking new ground with this concept, although it still feels a bit shaky for me. (My last attempt at this kind of aggressive pattern play was when I paired stripes with snakeskin, as seen here.)
Side note: If you look carefully at the skirt length, you can see that the skirt is about 4 inches too long on me. (Midi and maxi lengths may be attractive on some women, but they are ghastly on me.) The proportions are completely askew, and I will be promptly addressing the issue with my tailor.
