Review: J.Crew’s 2015 CFDA Collaboration

For the last five years, J.Crew has supported the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). As part of its sponsorship of the annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund award, J.Crew sells  a selection of merchandise from the winner and two finalists.

Historically, this is always the most exciting merchandise available at J.Crew. (I wrote about a silk blouse I bought last year from finalist Juan Carlos Obando’s collabo with J.Crew.)

This year, J.Crew is offering shoes from winner Paul Andrew, jewelry from finalist Eve Fehren and knitwear from finalist Ryan Roche. How did the selection stack up? Let’s take a spin.

Paul Andrew x J. Crew pumps, $398

These shoes are frightening similar to Paul Andrew’s full-price line, which retails for double the price at Saks. HOWEVER, that has to be the WORST modeling pose of all time.

Another cute pair of shoes… another pose that makes me want to go to the bathroom.

Ryan Roche x J. Crew Fringe Poncho, $198
Ryan Roche x J. Crew Fringe Poncho, $198

I had the exact same poncho — minus $140 of the price tag — back in 2002. This looks like it belongs on Paris Hilton circa the Simple Life,  especially in the infantile color. The good news? That lace skirt is beautiful! (The bad news? It’s only available in navy and size 000, which probably fits a Barbie and nothing else.)

Ryan Rpche x J. Crew Handknit Cashmere Sweater Vest, $298
Ryan Roche x J. Crew Handknit Cashmere Sweater Vest, $298

AGAIN with the baby pink?! The color can be cute in small doses, but it’s disheartening when a designer focuses more on color than utility. (Because honestly — do you really need a $300 sweater vesT?)

Eva Fehren x J. Crew Shorty Bracelet, $88

I know I’m supposed to be looking at the bracelets, but all I see is side-boob.

Eva Fehren x J. Crew Saber Earring Studs, $58

Hmmm… nearly $60 for a pair of studs? Do yourself a favor — save your allowance and buy these at Claire’s.
