Retail Round-Up: Links of the Week

Welcome back to Retail Round-Up, where I share the top stories impacting fashion and retail. Here are my favorite style stories of the week. (I know a ton of them are from the New York Times — forgive me just this once.)

The Jane Birkin-Hermès Fuss Needs to Be Put in Perspective: It’s been a strange week for animal activists. The latest furor has been over Jane Birkin’s request that Hermès remove her name off the Birkin bag due to her concerns over the welfare of the animals used to make the bags. Turn out, the story is a little more complicated — and non-dramatic — than it originally appeared.

Artistic Temporary Tattoos: Earlier this week, I shared my favorite metallic tattoos by TribeTats. I just discovered a new company that does artistic watercolor-esque tattoos. At just $5 to $15 a pop, these designs are super affordable, too. (My favorites: The coral and aqua butterflies, this whale and these vintage-y flowers.)

8 Awkward ‘Wet Hot American’ Looks, Explained: My husband and I have been plowing through the new Netflix prequel of Wet Hot American Summer, and it’s absolutely hysterical. The NYT interviewed costume designer Leslie Schilling and got lots of details on how she sourced the costumes. (Even though the series takes place in the early 80s, most of the clothes are contemporary.) I only wish she had included information on the zoot-suit seen above. For extra credit, here’s a quick tutorial on how to dress up like Gene, the camp cook.
