I’ve been in Atlanta for the past few days, and the trip was my first blast of 90+ temperatures this year. I came prepared for the scorch and packed a pair of shorts, but I quickly abandoned them when I spotted these cigarette jeans peeking from my suitcase.

White jeans are a wardrobe powerhouse that keep you cool and look much more polished than cut-offs. Typically, white denim is paired with chambray or Breton-striped shirts. Classic — but a little played out. I opted for the under-rated, under-appreciated cowl-neck. I like this style for balmy temperatures: Depending on the fabrication and your choice of accessories, the cowl-neck teeters between elegant and casual. This gray Helmut Lang version could easily be paired with a high-waisted pencil skirt and cropped jacket for a Monday meeting. (Bonus points: If you tuck the shirt into pants or a skirt, the draping is more pronounced and dressy.)

The purse is another item that can pull double-duty in a pinch: This is the same Marie Turnor clutch I sported in the last two posts. This time, I attached the optional strap to keep my hands free. The entire outfit felt light as a snowflake in this Southern sweat-box.
