I’m Over Snow Boots

I know I sound like a broken record over here — but this weather has been brutal. I am so sick of living in sweaters, Uniqlo heat-tech leggings and ski socks. These days, I wear so many layers, it feels like I’m swimming in fabric.

But most of all, I’m sick of snow boots. Sadly, those ugly, bulky monstrosities are a proverbial “must” at times like these. Unfortunately, wearing them is as comfortable as strapping two pails of wet cement to my feet.

Until now.

I’ve been a faithful follower of my “no shopping” New Years resolution. But when I discovered these shoes, it was like I had discovered the answer to a wardrobe emergency I didn’t even know I had. These high-tops have the same functionality as snow boots — they’re waterproof and warm with hardcore tread —  but they are blessedly lighter and more stylish. They’re also a godsend when the streets and sidewalks are crop-dusted with shoe-destroying salt.

The rest of the outfit is standard layering 101, with the thin trench coat providing an extra layer under the standard black wool version. It adds a little dimension and color — but honestly, even zipped up, it wasn’t really warm enough. I’ll gladly suffer for fashion, but I’m when TWO coats can’t keep you warm, the hope of spring dims and lies dormant.

Northeast friends, how are you coping with the winter? And are you feeling as hopeless as I am when you gaze into your closet?

I am so tired of this weather.
