Denim Flares Are Back

Anyone here remember 1996? We were still sleeping off the Clueless hangover, Wet Seal was the arbiter of all things cool and Blue Asphalt flares were THE cool-girl currency. I went to a private school, but you better believe I busted out my prized flares on every single dress-down day.

If you need more proof that the 90s trend will NEVER GO AWAY, look no further than this post, wherein I’m modeling the latest resurgence — the super-flared bell-bottom jean, which now comes in stretchier fabric and double the price of its 90s ancestor.

In addition to my time-traveling pants, I’m sporting a vintage Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche blouse, which hails from a misty, foreign land that’s B.B.C. –that is, Before Brand Confusion brought on by the plentiful name changes (YSL, Saint Laurent) from over the years. (Capulet Schmapulet — apparently a name is still plenty to fight for.)

Truth be told, this outfit feels more like fall than spring for me — which is why I paired the pants with my Paul Andrew gladiator sandals (last seen here). The goal was to look like a foxy extra from a more upscale production of Dazed and Confused –although with some chunky platforms and a ringer tee, we could easily be in Clueless territory instead.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the resurgence of flared jeans. Are you wearing the trend?
