5 Weird Things in Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale

The middle of summer tends to be a slow season for retailers. (Everyone is more busy tanning and vacationing instead of shopping.) This explains why every retailer, from Maje to J. Crew, is currently on a discount bonanza.

But no mid-summer sale is as hyped as Nordstrom’s annual “Anniversary” sale, in which fall merchandise goes on sale.

I took a look at Nordie’s sale catalog and Pinterest page to scope out the merchandise — and there are some WEIRD options. Let’s take a gander at the clothes, decor and seasonal items on the chopping block:

This faux fur coat is on sale for $100, which seems like an awful lot when you consider that the coat doesn’t have any buttons and the fur is the same color as a Marshmallow Peep. (Let’s not speak of the bathrobe silhouette.)

Levtex Blowing Kisses Pillow, $26

This pillow has just one target market: Grandmas who just discovered emoticons for the first time. Of course, grandma would ideally be able to cross-stitch this herself, thus saving the $30 (PS: Isn’t Apple supposed to be litigious? This seems like a slam-dunk plagiarism case!)

This leather T-shirt is as lumpy as a pillowcase and as slickly unappealing as a Hefty garbage bag. Don’t fall for these traps — just because it’s leather doesn’t mean it’s good.

This rotary phone is $50 and bills itself as a “conversation starter.” They just don’t tell you that the conversation starts with, “Why’d you waste $50 on a telephone?!”

You might assume that this is one of those trite “Pin-Aspiration” quotes. You would be wrong. This is actual art work (like, for actual walls, not just the background of your Galaxy Note) — and it’s available for $65 (on SALE) at Nordie’s.

The shark, she has been jumped.

What do you think of Nordstrom’s sale? Would you buy any of this stuff?
